We leave the pub on Dansey Pass early to get off to a fresh start riding the dirt road across the pass. At the top we stop for a few minutes to enjoy the incredible view of the clear but stormy skies over Mount Cook.

We ride down the other side of mountain and after 70 km of dirt road, Eric decides to turn into a lavender farm. We meet 63 year-old Barry and Jo who have both been living here for 25 years. We get on really well and they invite us for a typical Kiwi lunch on their terrace. They met when they were 17, got married and had a baby girl. But then, they divorced. 8 years ago they met and fell in love again …
